Takayama Jinya + Hida No Sato

HAPPY NEW YEAR PEOPLE!!
2010 is finally here. I should be blogging about how I spent my new year but then there was nothing much to blog about. I spent the night at a friend's open house and then countdown at SOHO - that's about summarizing my New Year celebration ;oP
Ok, time to get back on track.
Day 6 of our long Japan holiday.
After a nice breakfast, it's time to continue on with our journey.

Hida Plaze Hotel
For more information, u can check out their website:
Our first stop for the day was Takayama morning market
The weather was getting colder and colder as we're moved forward so our clothing was also getting thicker and thicker ;o(

Just like any normal morning market, u can see ppl selling handmade clothing + fresh vege + plants and all sorts of "morning stuff".

The place was full with small stores by the road.
The ppl there was very friendly - expected from a Japanese.

Den there was this small store by the road selling all sorts of teddies + dolls.
I'm sure if my best friend Shirley was here, she would have gone insane and keep on shouting. "I want this, I want that one and I want the other one too..." ;oP
My cousin bought a cute puppy doll in a bag for herself.

The biggest one I've seen so far!!
200 yen = about RM10 each - talking about expensive vege huh?!

corn corn~ jagung jagung~
hubbys' favourite ;o)

Giving out free food!!
of course cannot missed out la.. "free" worr ;oP

*malu pula dia*
Kobe beef!! Kobe beef!! selling in satay form!!
Price: About RM20 per stick - still consider cheap cause its Kobe beef worr.. the beef of the cow that grew up listening to music + massaged daily + feed with high quality food neh..

Luckily my dad is into photography LATELY - or else I'm sure I won't be able to find the time to shop + taking pictures at the same time.
Bought a cute handmade Japanese jacket for my baby nephew back at home - cost me about RM150.. sigh.. nothing is cheap in Japan and I do mean NOTHING!!

Finally, a picture of my dad aka the photographer with his mighty engine.
Taking all the credit for the wonderful pictures~~

Next stop, TAKAYAMA JINYA.

Takayama Jinya
A branch office of the government from 1692 - 1868. It is designated as a National historical site and is the only existing building of its kind in Japan.
For more info of the place, u can check it out on their website;
but first, u will have to know Japanese language in order to understand tho ;oP

Onyakusho, Goyouba
(Offices)
The offices were clearly separated by the status
*Random pictures taken of the place*

Zashiki
(Guest Room)
not bad neh.. big guest room..

The dried up "kolam renang".. ok, I made this up!
I forgot wat is this big hole doing there for liao..

I'm sure this place is called "The Kitchen" in our time ;oP

The Japanese - style Garden
The view from the living room of the residence of the head official. It remains the image of the Edo period.

Oshirasu, Ginmisho
(Law Court and Interrogation Room)
but for me, I called it "The Torturing Room"
It dealt with criminal cases. A roof was covered because of yearly snow.
aaarrrggghhh.. Japanese ppl sure can come up with ideas on how to torture ppl. Just seeing the torturing equipments there already gives me the chill ;o(

After done checking out the building, off we head out to the street around Takayama Jinya.
Din shop much here cause they're selling mostly souvenir stuff~

*Cousin Fabrian*
Busy eating his milk-icecream - I have to agree, Japan really produces one of the best milk (vanilla) ice-cream in the world!

This area of the street is where u can find the "Old Private Houses"
The rich atmosphere of Takayama castle town still lingers, and u can see sake breweries and merchants' houses with latticed bay windows standing in a row.
The town village still stands on the east side of the Miyagawa River flowing through Takayama, and in the middle of it is Sanmachi, where Edo period houses remain - they are all like at least 300 years old!!
This district was designated an area of important traditional buildings by the Japanese government.

*Giving away free food*.. again!!!
I bought a lot of nice food here for the gang back home. I was a bit full liao after trying so much free food so I asked my cousin Jessica to help me out ;oP

I'm not so stupid to buy this kind of stuff back home liao!!
Cause I was cheated the last time I bought an umbrella back home from Thailand. They tend to sell it so much more expensive there!!

*ikan bilis.. ikan bilis* for sale~~

The cute me in Takayama street.. eeeehhh sehhh!! LOL!!
It was a tiring walk..
*Random pics taken of the place*

*tired liaooo...*
rest rest for a while before continuing our journey. Time to grab some lunch liao!! I don't really know about u all but for me, I'm not a big fan of Japanese cuisine and I don't eat raw food so I didn't really enjoy eating in Japan.. altho I still don't understand why I can still managed to gained 4kgs!!!!

*Japanese amoi grabbing her lunch*
Daddy took a pic of her without her knowing.. it's not easy snapping a picture of someone secretly when you're holding a very BIG camera lorr..

Last stop before we called it a day!
Off we head to a place called, "Hida No Sato" - Hida Folk Village.
After hitching an 1hrs++ car ride, there we were at our destination!

This place was built to preserve Japanese traditional house - cultural heritage.
The Nishiokas' House
The house is worthy of study by historians of architecture. It has two features. One is seen in the steep-slated roof, and the other in the room arrangement.

The water mill

Nice Padi field ;o)

The BIG BELL outside Hozumis' House
- my favourite part of the place -
this is because the ppl there believed, if u make a wish sincerly and then ring the big bell, your wish will come true!! oh yeaaaa.. OF COURSE I TRIED IT!!!

After q-ing for 15mins, finally it was my turn.
My 2 small cousins + aunty had a lot of wishes so I had to wait for a while for my turn ;oP
I only had ONE wish that day and guess what.. I think it's coming true (so far)~~

Me with the earthly Gods~

It was freezing cold leh over there!! brrrrrrrr..
I was so glad when I found a fire-place!!!!!
One last shot of the place before we head back to our NEW hotel and rest.. preparing for the next day ;o)

*souvenirs sold - the design of the houses there*
too expensive liao.. I cannot afford to buy ;oP
For more info of the place, pls visit their website;
-stay tuned-
